Judging Criteria

This annual recognition program comprises three award categories:

The Lillian Carter Exemplary Acts in Nursing Award
This award honors a nurse or nursing program that has engaged in extraordinary acts of providing healthcare in areas of special need. It is named after President Jimmy Carter’s late mother, affectionately known as Miss Lillian, who worked in community hospitals and nursing homes before, late in her career, joining the Peace Corps to extend that service around the world.

      Criteria:

The nomination should be for programs, initiatives or nurse-led efforts within the past two years. They can be either domestic or global. Nominations should explain the scope of the special need and how the nurse or program made a difference. We are looking for detailed description and documentation of the nominee’s work, explaining the issues addressed, who it impacted and actual outcomes of the nominee’s efforts.

      Entry Process:

Nominations must be submitted through an online entry form. Each entry will require a summary of the program or initiative (400 words or less) explaining its mission and the results. Please provide as much quantitative information as possible to support the nomination. Submission of supporting documents such as reports and letters of recommendation is highly encouraged.

    Diversity in Nursing Award
This award will recognize a person for achievement in advancing diversity—racial, ethnic, gender or sexual orientation—in the nursing workforce, either within nurse’s organization or the profession at large. The work should have occurred within the past two years.

      Criteria:

Nominations must include measurable, reportable growth in diversity or diversity promotion through development of specific programs, educational initiatives, events, etc. We are looking for detailed description and documentation of the nominee’s work explaining the issues addressed, who it impacted and actual outcomes of the nominee’s efforts.

      Entry Process:

Nominations must be submitted through an online entry form. Each entry will require a summary (400 words or less) of the nominee’s goals and accomplishments, explaining the issues addressed, who it impacted and actual outcomes. Please provide as much quantitative information as possible to support the nomination. Submission of supporting documents is highly encouraged.

    Rising Stars in Nursing
This special designation will recognize a number of accomplished young nurse leaders for their achievements in the profession and at their organizations very early in their careers.

      Criteria:

Nominees must be age 35 or under as of the nomination deadline. They will be judged based on their achievements and contributions to the practice of nursing by: 1) adding to the value/quality equation; 2) stepping up into leadership positions within the organization or in the nursing profession at large; 3) playing prominent roles to improve the health and well-being of their communities. We are looking for detailed description and documentation of the nominee’s accomplishments, explaining the issues addressed, who it impacted and actual outcomes.

      Entry Process:

Nominations must be submitted through an online entry form. Entries will require narratives of 250 words or less describing how the nominee has performed on as many of the criteria above as applicable. Submission of supporting documents is highly encouraged.
